Beyond Words
Kristy, Matt, Christopher, John, Pat, MaryAnn, just to name a few....all killed or seriously injured while pedaling. Overwhelming sadness resurfaces with each name added to the list. Sadness at the loss of life, the lives changed forever, and the inevitable question...do I quit the sport I love to stay safe?

Sharing the road gets harder with every terrible tragedy we see on the news. But giving up the sport we love just so that maybe we can fall down and hit our heads in the shower isn't worth it either. I prefer to try to educate all my friends about sharing the road with cyclists. A simple moment to grab a CD or dial your cell phone means your eyes leave the road just long enough for you to drift off the road and into a cyclist. The message cannot be repeated often enough. Whenever you are a passenger in a car, point out how easily - and quickly - a simple moment could end someone's life. Granted, not all will listen, but if you keep spreading the word, you may end up helping a fellow cyclist - OR yourself!
